Hades 9: RTS Fans Should Get Hopeful
So, this project might be a tad over-ambitious. I am going to put that warning front and center and in the back. This project looks too big to succeed with the manpower behind it.
But, then again, Minecraft was made by a very small team—so let’s at least do Hades 9 the honor of giving it some hype.
Because—if this works out—we are looking at something insanely fun for the right niche. An RTS that revolves around space combat is something I didn’t know I wanted until I saw it here. This trailer is a pre-alpha version, but, even with that caveat, the core idea of massive space fleet fights viewable from the cockpit of a single ship, or with an overview, appeals to the armchair general in me.
I just hope it lives up to that potential. The thing about reviewing a game at this stage is that it’s all promises and theories. But, if any of what I could imagine this game as is accurate, then this will be something to pick up when you need your brain whipped into gear.
I do have other doubts though…
The MMO part of the game I am unsure about. The servers and the upkeep required is likely the biggest thing that might sink this spaceship. The game might be better as a 1v1 space RTS.
But, hey, I don’t want to be too negative here. Aiming too high with a goal is not always a bad thing—and perhaps people will love this game enough to make it grow. I can certainly see myself trying my hand at commanding a fleet into a harsh star field.
So, if you like it, consider throwing them some money. It is a crowdfunded game. Making art isn’t easy, and I hope this one gets the support it needs to become great. Rewarding good art is also personally rewarding.
