Outlast was my first real obsession with survival horror games in this new age of gaming. I went to YouTube and would watch other people play it. I scoured over the Wiki to put the pieces together. Oh yeah, and I nearly peed my pants multiple times whilst playing the actual game.
The 2013 game focused on journalist Miles Upshur and his investigation into Mount Massive Asylum and the twisted human experimentation that was taking place. The first person non-shooter, in fact there was no method of defense just running, scared the pants off of a large audience and now developer Red Barrels is bringing in the sequel with new characters and a new setting.
The first teaser is pretty chilling.
It’s just about as creepy as the second teaser.
However, just this week we finally got a look at some of the gameplay featured on Outlast II.
So players will still see the horrific background characters and will be running from some currently unknown enemy flashlights. The dense cornfield is a nice touch since it provides the eerie condensed atmosphere of the previous game while actually taking place outside. You’ll still have your night vision camera but now you can take that thing under water where I’m sure nothing bad can ever happen. There’s no word on the plot just yet, but it’s pretty safe to say that some sort of religious cult will be in the mix and I can’t wait to see what the writer’s do with that type of lore.
You’ll have to wait until later this year to pick up Outlast II, but it will be available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. You can bet I’ll be playing it. In the early afternoon. With the lights on. With a friend or three.
