Dragons! Who doesn’t love our fire-breathing mythical creatures? After seeing a variety of them across different movies, video games and even playing cards, I thought I would dedicate an article to some badass looking dragons I have come across so far.
Deathwing (World of Warcraft)
He may have gotten slaughtered over and over by raid groups in Dragon Soul, but he still preserves his spot under the limelight as one fierce and menacing enemy. Also known as Deathwing the Destroyer, he indeed transformed the face of Azeroth completely with his fiery wrath and made this third WoW expansion one to remember.
Pain… Agony…. My hatred burns through the cavernous deeps. The world heaves with my torment. Its wretched kingdoms quake beneath my rage… But at last… The whole of Azeroth will break… …And all will burn beneath the shadow of my wings…
Hellkite Dragon (Dark Souls)
I wonder how many times I had to watch my friend become engulfed in flames by this particular dragon as he attempted to sprint across the bridge in the Undead Burg. Well, at least he got the Drake Sword after shooting countless arrows at the dragon’s tail. Ruthless and merciless, this dragon has the personality and looks to leave a mark in my book.
Shivan Dragon (Magic the Gathering)
Those sleepless nights playing Magic The Gathering with my cousins would not be complete without the Shivan Dragon. It may require a lot of mana but this flying beauty has saved me too many times when things got complicated.
Toothless (How to Train Your Dragon)
Okay, so he fits more into the “cute” category compared to the other dragons I have listed so far. I can’t help but have a soft spot for Toothless after watching one of the best-animated films to date. Powerful but lovable with a tinge of playfulness, he may not have a whole tail but he certainly deserves a full praise.
Maleficent (Sleeping Beauty)
For a dragon that was created in 1959, Maleficent’s transformation does justice in her role as one of the most potent and sinister Disney villains. Until today I can never forget the dragon’s grim depiction along with her signature green flames.
Ukrainian Ironbelly (Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows)
So I stopped reading after Book Four (hey watch those tomatoes) and was quite blown away when I saw this white dragon guarding the high-security vaults at Gringotts. White dragons are rare to come by and although the dragon’s design was fairly simple in the movie, its escape from a life of imprisonment wins my vote.
Dracolich (Dungeons & Dragons)
A dragon list without at least ONE dragon from D&D? Blasphemy. The Dracolich embodies all that is ‘undeadly’ cool. Introduced in the first edition of the Advanced D&D, these powerful evil dragons are quite a handful for anybody who comes across its path.
What dragons have you crossed paths with?
