Monster Hunter was originally released in 2004. It is an action RPG that allowed the player to essentially “hunt” monsters, the culmination of which was the massive Wyverns. These beasts are incredibly powerful and hard to kill. Unfortunately, the online servers for the game were shut down in 2007. However, it is still possible to go on hunts offline. One of the major missions involves killing the Monoblos. This beast is much tougher than the previously fought Wyverns (other than the Rathalos).
The Monoblos is the largest wyvern you will have fought up to now. It is so large that it can’t fit inside pitfall traps, making them useless. This means that if you want to come stacked with items to fight the Monoblos, you’re going to want 3 cool drinks, book of combos 1-3, lots of gunpowder and screamers, as many sonic bombs as you can carry, flashbombs, 10 potions, megapotions, 6 paintballs, 5 well-done steaks, and several whetstones. (You could also try and stun the Monoblos with a flashbomb and then placing two red barrel bombs at his feet and detonating them with a small barrel bomb. If you want to do this, you will obviously need large and small barrel bombs.)
The Monoblos appears in the desert region, and he will always start in area 10. Once you see him, hit him with a paintball. It is incredibly difficult to fight the Monoblos in area 10 due to all of the Genprey running around. Don’t try to attack him, it won’t be worth it, just kill a few of the Genprey and don’t let yourself take too much damage. The Monoblos will leave the area soon enough. He usually will stay around area 10, 4 3, and 1. However, it is possible for him to go into the massive sand areas as well. If he does this, make sure you use a cool drink before following him. Also, if you’re in area 10 or 1, jump onto the ledge in the area. The Monoblos will charge it and get his horn stuck. Use this opportunity to hit him in the face. You can break off his horn this way (and receive it at the end of the mission), which is a very valuable bit of loot.
Ok, so you can’t just destroy the Monoblos with pitfall traps and bombs since he’s so big. Instead you’re going to have to get your hands dirty. He follows much the same pattern as many other Wyverns. If he turns towards you twice quickly, he’s going to charge at you, so get out of the way. He doesn’t have a breath attack, which limits his attack options. So if he doesn’t turn towards you quickly then get close to him and try to cut off his tail. Just be smart about it and attack cautiously. He has a body slam attack that can hit you if you’re by his flanks and cause massive damage. Always be cautious and don’t get greedy. Most of the Monoblos’ body is heavily armored. However, his legs and stomach are not. So aim for them as much as you can. Once you cut off his tail, they are pretty much your only viable targets.
The Monoblos can’t really fly. However, he can go underground. If he does, throw a sonic bomb once his tail disappears under the sand and he’ll pop back up and thrash around for a bit. Hit him as many times as you can during this period. If he gets underground, always stay moving and watch where he is. If you see the sand rise towards you, get out of the way. The Monoblos will come out of the ground and cause massive damage if he hits you. This move will still damage you if you block it. However, his charge attack will not, so feel free to block it. That could allow you to get a hit in while he finishes his charge.
The Monoblos has a lot of health and will take a long time to go down. Once you see black smoke coming out of his mouth, just give him some space. His attack strength and speed will be too much for you to handle. Just wait until he returns to normal and then start attacking him again. Eventually he will fall. He doesn’t really have any tricky moves, so he’s pretty easy to read. Just stay cautious and kill any Genprey in your way and you should be fine.
